United Airlines
United
Airlines announced the introduction of enhanced non-stop
service between Seattle-Tacoma
International Airport and Tokyo's Narita International Airport
beginning October 31 on aircraft equipped with the state-of-the-art
United
First Suite. The service
marks United's first trans-Pacific flight featuring the new
product. More than just a seat, the First Suite can transform
from a relaxing
personal
space to
an office, or into a comfortable, lie-flat, bed. United's
International First Class cabins will be configured to contain
12 of the
new First Suites, which
will be arranged in a herringbone pattern for greater privacy
and to allow direct aisle access from every seat. The First
Suite was
introduced
onboard
United 777 aircraft in March 1999, featuring: recline lie
flat at 1800, functions as both a seat and as a bed. Deploys
to
6'6" in length; seat bottom cushion
length adjusts from 17" to 20". It better fits customers
of all heights. There's also a dropping side arm, and additional

the tray table. For corporate travel, United features additional
work surface and a separate footrest; becomes part of bed.
There's a state-of-the-art back support system, the "Back Cycler" with 6-way
adjustment: lumbar firmness in/out; height up/down, cycle on/off for inflating/deflating
every 2 minutes. This provides the ultimate in luxury travel comfort while
seated for long periods, including an individual reading light adjustable.;
the seat is mounted. There's a separate table in front console and personal
stowage adjacent to the seat. Privacy Screens maintain privacy from other passengers
when in "sleep mode".
Fly
business class and you'll experience a whole new dimension
in international and
corporate travel. The number of seats has been reduced to
increase your personal space
-- and extended your leg room by a generous 20%. In fact,
you'll have a glorious four feet of space. Besides adjustable
headrests
and plenty
of
space, there's
9 Channel Distributed Video System (DVS9) with a choice of
entertainment channels covering business, sports, family,
regional programs and
movie channels.
Swiss Airlines
First Class
When
you fly First Class with Swissair, you enjoy service at its
very best. They
provide
premium international travel. First class has many features,
including a table that lets you hold a conference, or a dinner,
for two;
a seat that transforms
into a bed 201 cm long and 60 cm wide, and a gastronomic
feast featuring as many as eight courses, created by two
of the finest
chefs in the
world.
Simply press the button and you can prepare to sleep, or
move the seat into the correct position for relaxing or working.
The finest foods are selected and prepared by the finest
chefs. Flight attendants in First Class must speak at least
three
languages perfectly
and be, well,
absolutely first-class in every way.
Dinner is sheer à la carte pleasure. When you've had time
to peruse the menu over your aperitif, not only does Swissair
ask
what you'd like to eat, but
also when you'd like to eat. And you're served straight from
the cart, to make sure that you receive exactly what you
want, the way you want it. If
you prefer
something slightly less extravagant, a shorter meal would
no doubt be more to your taste. Either way, the choice is
yours.
Business Class
In Business Class you enjoy more space, more comfort, more
attention and a wider choice. But it's not just the flight
that's more enjoyable
- it's
every
stage of your journey
A business trip often means intense preparation followed
by a hectic series of meetings. So your flight should be
the opposite
- a quiet
time to rest
and restore your energy.
On long-haul flights, Business Class seats offer lower back
support and leg rest angle and length adjustment. The headrest
position,
height and
side flaps
are also fully adjustable. And on the new Airbus A330, most
of these adjustments are electrically operated. You'll run
out of
work before
you run out of
steam. Swissair Business Class seats will soon be equipped
with a power source for
your laptop. All you'll need is an adapter cable for a hypertronic
socket.
You'd expect the emphasis to be on Swiss cuisine, with its
rich choice of salads, vegetables and fruit. Wherever possible,
Swissair
uses
naturally-grown ingredients,
carefully prepared to preserve natural goodness and flavors.
On long-haul flights there are four dinner menus, and even
a choice of three different breakfasts. And so that frequent
flyers don't
have to
have frequent
dishes, the menu is completely changed every two months.
South African Airways
The
First Class seat is modelled on the Swissair First Class
seat, which was voted
number 1
among 36 airlines on the In-flight Research Surveys 2000
study. First Class seats offer a 180 degree lie-flat bed.
In full
recline, it
offers a 29-inch
wide bed. Each suite has its own ottoman, which is electrically
controlled. An extra large dining table offers the opportunity
for dual dining.
Depending on aircraft registration, the cabin features 6
or 7 single suites and
2 double suites. The seat pitch is 83". Each seat has its own in-seat power supply for
laptops. (Passengers supply their own connector cables.) An in-seat telephone
on selected aircraft. Individual, adjustable reading lights at each seat with
3 different light settings. There's a private television with 8.6" screens.
First class also features personalized butler service with
attention to detail, top South African wines and boutique
French champagnes,
and turn-down
service
with luxurious duvets and large pillows.
Business
class seats feature increased pitch from 45" to 78". The seat translates into a 180-degree
lie-flat position, creating a 78-inch long bed. There's a fully adjustable
headrest to six positions for customized comfort, pneumatic lumbar support
which moulds to an individual's body shape and electronically operated seats
(recline and leg rest extension). The seat is generously wide with shoulder
width at 27.5", and seat width at 21". Each seat has its own in-seat power
supply for laptops (Passengers supply their own connector cables). There's
an in-seat telephone, individual adjustable reading lights at each seat with
3 different light settings, and a private television, with large 8.6" screens
and Sony P@ssport audio-and-video-on-demand giving passengers
full control of their own in-flight entertainment.
Both classes feature Sony P@ssport audio-and-video-on-demand.
This system allows each passenger to play, pause, rewind
or fast-forward
any movie
at any time
without it affecting other passengers' viewing. It features
a variety of video games. Passengers can also compile their
own audio listings
by selecting
from
a variety of soundtracks.
In all cabin classes on board, South African Airways strives
to improve its food and wine service, and innovates continually,
rotating
menus
weekly on
domestic routes and approximately every three months on international
routes. South African Airways is the first company to be
granted honorary membership
of the South African Chefs' Association.
Singapore Airlines
Singapore
features fully-reclining Slumberettes in the First class
cabins of all its Mega-top
747s. They can be converted into a bed at the touch of a
button and a divider can be put between seats. Slumberettes
come with
a phone,
entertainment
system, reading light and laptop power supply. Exquisite,
sumptuous, lavish
and luxurious...
aristocratic superlatives define the unique ambience of the
new First Class cabin featuring the SkySuite (progressively
being
introduced to the Megatop
747 fleet). Of the multitude of refinements awaiting in the
new First
Class cabin, pride of place goes to the magnificent new SkySuite.
Upholstered in Connolly leather and trimmed with burr wood
as found in the world's
most
prestigious motor cars, it evokes a spirit associated with
the golden age
of travel. Every
aspect of the seat has been designed with space and sumptuous
comfort in mind. To help find the optimum position for relaxing
during
your flight, the chair
can be adjusted in a variety of ways. It can recline to any
angle, including a completely flat bed. As it reclines, the
seat bottom
automatically articulates
to provide better support. An especially innovative feature
is the new
built-in "optimum
comfort" position which provides the most comfortable angle to support the
body whilst reading or relaxing. Total comfort is assured with the wide range
of touch sensitive seat controls. Singapore Airlines in-flight entertainment
has long been known as "the Biggest Show in the Sky" but
the large 36 cm (14 inch) screen found in First Class breaks
all
records.
Completely
redesigned, the new MEGATOP 747 Raffles cabin exudes an ambience
of contemporary elegance.
The Ultimo seat offers an extra personal space and seat comfort
which allows to stretch out or work in an unprecedented level
of comfort.
The Raffles
class is progressively being introduced to the Megatop 747
fleet. Aboard MEGATOP
747's the upper deck is exclusive to Raffles Class and there
is also a spacious cabin on the main deck. Ultimo - The new
Italian-designed
seats
provide Raffles
Class customers with an unrivalled degree of comfort. The
elegant, aerodynamic profile of the seat ensures a relaxed,
comfortable
posture
even on the
longest flights. Indeed, the unique shape makes it possible
to relax or sleep on your
side or on your back. Another improvement is afforded by
the seat pitch which is the largest in Business Class of
any major
airline
currently
offering three
cabin classes. To complement the extra personal space this
creates, both the height and width of the seat have been
increased, and
legrests widened.
All
of which makes for a supremely comfortable journey. The seat
control includes a one-touch reset feature. On the main deck
the middle
seats in the centre
section are wider by one inch for extra comfort. All seats
are installed with an adjustable seat-bottom cushion for
better leg
support. For
added comfort,
there is a six-way adjustable headrest. To add to the relaxed
ambience, the use of two different fabric designs on alternating
seats enhances
a sense of
individuality in the cabin. Other thoughtful touches include
a personal reading light which can be swivelled to allow
a variety
of reading
positions. And an
innovative privacy screen which is a world first in Business
Class. There is also amenity storage and an in-seat laptop
power supply.

class, "Magnifica Class" aims
particularly at satisfying the specific demands of Alitalia
passengers. What sets off Magnifica, the intercontinental

Very wide, fully reclining, totally automatic with electric controls, the brand
new seats in Magnifica Class (30 seats on the MD11, 36 on the B747 and 25 on

backs that can recline up to 54° and footrests that can be adjusted up to 75° from
the vertical. Moreover, to guarantee you even more comfort,
seats in Magnifica are grouped only in pairs. But it is not
enough
for you to be comfortably
snuggled away in your seat, listening to your favorite musical
program, if you are missing
somebody. You can call that person on the phone. Magnifica
Class is equipped with a digital quality satellite telephone
system
for each pair of seats
(found in the armrest of the MD11 and B767, and as a cordless
on the bulkhead of the
B747) and 4 cordless phones on the bulkhead of the B 747.
Of course, the food and wine are magnificent too. The menus

renowned
chefs, include
the best recipes
of the Italian tradition, which has made Italian cooking
famous throughout the world, as well as a selection of the
best international
dishes.
From the starter to dessert, what is served is fresh food,
not overly prepared,
with
delicate flavors…. Special menus are also available for those
who have special dietetic and religious needs. The choice
of D.O.C. and D.O.C.G. wines is
